Powering Nusantara: Antaisolar Delivers Custom Mounting for Indonesia’s First Mountain Solar-Plus-Storage Project

1. Project Overview

 
  • Project Background:Indonesia is vigorously advancing the development of renewable energy to drive the transformation and upgrading of its energy mix. As a national strategic project, the green energy supply system of Nusantara, Indonesia's new capital, holds significant demonstration value. This project marks the first solar-plus-storage initiative in Nusantara and the first mountainous solar-plus-storage project in Indonesia. As the inaugural destination of the "21st Century Maritime Silk Road," the successful commissioning of this project stands as a vivid practice of green development under the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), further deepening bilateral cooperation between China and Indonesia in the fields of renewable energy and infrastructure development.
 
  • Project Requirements:Located in the mountainous region of Nusantara, the site features complex topography, including reverse-slope layouts and significant elevation differences between adjacent posts. The area faces a shortage of local construction resources and highly variable mountainous weather, while the client enforces strict requirements for local content. The core requirement was to deliver a fixed mounting structure solution within an extremely tight schedule. The system needed to flexibly adapt to the complex mountainous terrain, meet stringent anti-corrosion standards, and achieve a high degree of localized manufacturing.

2. Project Challenges

 
  • Design and Construction Challenges Posed by Complex Mountainous Terrain: The site features slopes ranging from 0° to 30° in both the east-west and north-south directions, with drastic elevation fluctuations. The area includes PV arrays situated on reverse slopes, resulting in significant elevation differences between adjacent posts within the same array. Conventional standardized mounting solutions could not be directly applied.
  • Supply Chain Organization Challenges Driven by Localization Requirements: The client mandated that structural profiles be manufactured locally in Indonesia, while accessories were to be produced at Antaisolar’s Zhangzhou factory. This necessitated the organization and quality control of a cross-border supply chain, requiring the development of detailed production specifications and in-depth coordination from scratch to ensure local products met design and technical standards.
  • Delivery and Installation Challenges Under an Extremely Tight Schedule: The project required grid connection within three months. The compressed timeline demanded that on-site installation be executed flawlessly and rapidly on the first attempt. To ensure timely commencement of installation, samples were air-freighted to the site for installation validation.
  • Anti-Corrosion and Material Durability Challenges in a Tropical Mountainous Environment: The project required a C3 corrosion protection level, mandating that the aluminum alloy mounting structures meet a 25-year anti-corrosion service life. Additionally, the region experiences extremely high and low temperatures; structural components required a guaranteed impact toughness at 20°C to mitigate the effects of temperature fluctuations on the material's mechanical properties.

3. Solutions

To address the core challenges of complex mountainous terrain, localized manufacturing, and an extremely tight schedule, Antaisolar provided a comprehensive solution centered on a customized aluminum alloy fixed mounting structure system.

3.1 Addressing Complex Mountainous Terrain: Four Facade Configurations and Adjustable Post Design
  • To accommodate slope variations of 0-30° and reverse-slope layouts, the design incorporated four facade configurations with adjustable posts. Corresponding post heights and diagonal brace configurations were selected based on specific slope intervals to flexibly adapt to the complex site conditions.
  • The lengths of the posts, diagonal braces, and tie rods were fully adjustable according to actual on-site elevation differences, ensuring installation precision and structural stability for PV arrays across undulating terrain.

3.2 Meeting Localization Requirements: Cross-Border Supply Chain Synergy and Local Supplier Development
  • Structural profiles were manufactured locally in Indonesia. The Antai team developed and deeply engaged with local Indonesian suppliers, formulating detailed production specifications and technical standards. This ensured that the locally produced aluminum alloy profiles met the required mechanical properties, specifically 6005-T6 grade or above, with a yield strength of 235 MPa or higher.
  • Accessories were manufactured at Antaisolar’s Zhangzhou factory and shipped to Indonesia following rigorous factory inspections. This "local profiles + domestic accessories" synergistic supply model satisfied the client's localization requirements while guaranteeing the quality and precision of critical components.

3.3 Overcoming the Extreme Schedule: Air-Freighted Samples, Cutting Optimization, and On-Site Guidance
  • To ensure on-site installation commenced on schedule, Antaisolar’s technical team developed a specialized profile cutting plan. Profiles were optimally cut into segments under 3 meters and air-freighted to the site for rapid assembly, ensuring the timely delivery and successful installation validation of 10 sample sets.
  • Experienced engineers were dispatched to the site to guide installation and collaborate with the construction team to optimize the installation sequence and operational workflows, determining the most efficient construction plan.
  • A combined solution of helical pipe piles and aluminum alloy mounting structures was adopted, fully leveraging the advantages of helical piles—namely, no concrete curing time and rapid installation—to significantly enhance on-site installation efficiency.

3.4 Ensuring Anti-Corrosion and Material Durability: High-Standard Material Selection and Anti-Corrosion Processes
  • Structural components were fabricated from premium 6005-T6 series aluminum alloy or above, with a guaranteed 20°C impact toughness, ensuring structural safety under extreme temperature conditions.
  • The steel helical pile foundations underwent hot-dip galvanizing, while the aluminum alloy mounting structures received an anodized coating, meeting the 25-year anti-corrosion service requirements for a C3 corrosive environment.

4. Project Outcomes

 
Construction commenced on August 5, 2024. Following a four-and-a-half-month construction period, the project achieved full-capacity grid connection on December 22, 2024. Despite challenges such as variable mountainous weather, complex terrain, and strict localization requirements, the project team innovatively integrated the construction advantages of helical pipe piles and aluminum alloy mounting structures. Through precise resource allocation and stringent control over safety, quality, and schedule, the team successfully achieved all predetermined goals. The project is expected to generate approximately 93 million kWh of clean electricity annually and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 104,000 tons, providing a stable and reliable green power supply for Nusantara, Indonesia.

As the first integrated solar-plus-storage project and the first mountainous solar-plus-storage project in Indonesia's new capital, its successful commissioning has become a new engine for local green energy development and a successful practical example of green development under the Belt and Road Initiative.
